EXCYTEX is a spin-off company from the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU) that pursues a leading position in designing and providing research tools related to extracellular vesicles.

Extracellular vesicles are membrane structures composed of lipid bilayers that are shed from cells and carry proteins and nucleic acids. In diseased states, the amount of vesicles and protein content vary. Extracellular vesicles comprise different subpopulations that are also known as exosomes, microvesicles and apoptotic bodies. They have been shown to be important extracellular communicators in different physiological and pathologic processes. Even though their role has only been discovered recently, an entire new research field has evolved around the functions and applications of extracellular vesicles within a time span of only a few years.

Extracellular vesicles are currently a central subject of many studies in large research fields, like oncology and immunology, and have recently been named „strategic top priority by the National Institute of Health (NIH).

The Strategy of EXCYTEX

EXCYTEX is one of to the first companies delivering dedicated research tools specifically and exclusively for the extracellular vesicle research field. EXCYTEX will take a very interactive approach by participating in scientific meetings and closely listening to the needs and wishes of our customers.

EXCYTEX provides researchers with customisable liposomal formulations mimicking core vesicles qualities. Based on your needs these liposomes can contain soluble proteins, nucleatic acids and exteriorly coupled molecules such as biotin or antibodies. Besides complex solutions we are also an ideal supplier of high quality, relative simple liposome solutions such as fluorescent or negatively charged liposomes. By ensuring applicability, reproducibility and affordability, the company aims to become a key player in the scientific community and become the main supplier of „golden standard” research tools.
